Hello my friends! You maybe wondering just what this blog title means: "Sovereign Grace Thought". Consider the following: God has choice and His choice is sovereign; man has choice and his choice is_______.
My friends, the world has debated for years the issue of God's sovereignty. This blog is not going to settle that debate. It is my hope that these musings and considerations would bring hope and a calm in the midst of what seems to be a heated battle.
In todays culture religious debate is a "turn-off". People today in our western culture despise argument and unanswered questions. That seems to be a contradiction; but folk would rather ignore the battle than get involved; yet they want and decide for themselves what the answer is. Some would state that God's sovereignty allows man to make choice and not many would disagree; but each may define the context of sovereignty differently. Theologians remind us of the differing Calvinist or Armenian views. Some take sides with John Wesley, while some tout the words of George Whitfield.
For almost 2000 years the argument has raged. Men scream! Christians kill, forcing their personal beliefs! The Church divides again and again! The Gospel is seemly ransacked! The lost are left in the wake of terror and or hopelessness; and Believers are left confused and taking sides. It has been 2 miilennia since the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; and even more time has past, maybe even 10,000 years, since man dawned the scope of time at Creation in the Garden of Eden. This question of sovereignty, who is really in absolute control still haunts, if not the front, the hidden recesses of man's mind.
A woman in desperate fear, may think God only knows what is going to happen just moments before it occurs. The battle between God and Satan is at a draw for who has the upper hand; i.e., who knows their opponents plans, schemes, and strategies first.
Children captured by abuse run, trying to hide, only to be found by their nightmares.
Trauma may abound leaving men, women, and adults questioning if God loves them at all.
The question abounds among every living soul: Is God really sovereignly in control of all things?
Why do bad things happen? How do I solve this problem? What will happen if ____? The battle rages in a fight for control or the type of control. Man has thought of every way possible to gain, manipulate, or influence control; yet finds someone else has just a little more sway, dominance, or muscle.
Personally, I like this definition of control: ILLUSION.
In my posts, we will be considering thoughts that are in search of balance. First we will look at the story of Jonah. Then we will look for light to be shed from 1 Thessalonians 5:23, 24. As we continue with this blog NewHeart Expressions will open a forum on their .net site entitled: (can you believe it), Sovereign Grace Thought; where you may post your musings, thoughts, questions, and even arguments (as long as you do so politely).
I look forward to sharing grace and truth and seeing your responses when the forum opens. In the meantime and always...
May Almighty God capture you in His Grace and set you free in His Truth!!!
